Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Is there a fee for this course?

No. As of 2021-2022, Neurosci101 is free for all participants.

Will I get a credit on my report card for attending this course?

No. This course is not part of any high school curriculum, and will not show up on your report card.

Will there be any evaluations?

No. The midterm and final review sessions are for your own benefit only, and can serve to prepare you for the Brain Bee, if you are looking to participate.

When will lecture notes be available?

We will do our best to upload lecture slides the day before the lecture. That being said, since our lecturers have their own busy schedules, lecture notes may be uploaded immediately prior to the lecture.

What time does the course start?

The lectures are formally from 5-6:30 pm, but we will usually start at 5:10.

How do I access the Microsoft Teams?

If you have both a) registered online and b) sent your permission forms, you will receive an invitation to the Neurosci101 Team to join as a guest to the email you provided at registration. Occasionally, school emails (i.e. @pdsb.ca, @yrdsb.ca) do not work for MS Teams. If you experience this, please send us an alternative email address, after which we will send the invitation to that alternative email.

Will this course prepare me for the Brain Bee competition?

The course was designed with Brain Bee topics in mind, but is a great primer on topics in neuroscience in general. Lecture content may differ slightly from Brain Bee Handbook material, however, since each of our lecturers brings their own expertise when lecturing.

What happens if I miss a lecture?

Unless you are aiming to receive a certificate of completion, you may attend as many/few lectures as you like. Keep in mind, however, that some material from previous lectures may be relevant for future ones. If you would like to receive a certificate of completion, you must 1) be present for the entirety of at least 9 lectures in 2021-2022 (we will keep track of attendance) and 2) fill out a post-lecture survey, the link to which will be sent out following each lecture, and you will have 24 hours to complete this survey. We will not be granting any exceptions. If you have any issues accessing the survey, you must contact us within 24 hours of the end of the lecture.
